Banking fees and comparison method — Review overdue

Review overdue: This guide remains overdue while its source review and rollout-day tariff checks await acceptance. Do not treat any amount as a current quote.

A regulatory cap is not necessarily the fee a bank will charge. Check the bank's current tariff and the exact product, customer class, channel and transaction.

The BOT instrument applies according to covered product and customer type, not nationality or residence. Compare the regulated maximum with the selected bank's actual tariff; do not describe the standard as abolishing bank fees.

Bank charges depend on the bank, product, customer eligibility, channel, currency, transaction type and tariff effective date. Thailand Expat Services does not provide bank accounts, payment services, foreign-exchange execution or financial advice. We may coordinate an independent referral; ask whether compensation may be received before you consent to an introduction.

Compare like with like

For each option, record:

  1. bank or licensed provider and exact product;
  2. customer and residency category;
  3. transaction channel and currency;
  4. transfer amount and amount the recipient receives;
  5. bank/provider fee, exchange rate or markup, correspondent or receiving deductions, card or ATM operator charge and your issuer's charge;
  6. limits, waiver conditions and supporting documents;
  7. tariff or quote URL, version/effective date and the date you checked it.

Do not combine unrelated products into a country “typical range.” A landing page is not evidence for a tariff amount.

PromptPay and Thai QR

The Bank of Thailand describes PromptPay as payment infrastructure and publishes a standard fee-ceiling table. It also notes that most banks have waived fees for digital-payment transactions since 2018. Your bank's current product terms, registration eligibility, channel, transaction limit and displayed confirmation still control. Verify the recipient name and amount before authorising payment.

ATM and card withdrawals

Before accepting a withdrawal, read the machine's displayed operator charge and conversion choice. Separately check your card issuer's cash-withdrawal, foreign-transaction and exchange-rate terms. Do not rely on a market-wide Thai ATM fee or maximum withdrawal figure; operator, card, machine and account limits differ.

International transfers and foreign exchange

Compare a live written quote by total cost and net amount received. Ask about the exchange rate, provider charge, intermediary/receiving deductions, delivery estimate, cancellation/refund terms and evidence requirements. The Bank of Thailand says foreign-exchange transactions must use authorised persons and may require transaction details or supporting documents. Requirements depend on the transaction; verify them with the authorised bank/provider and, for legal, tax or property consequences, a qualified Thai professional.

First-party fee sources

Use the selected bank's current fee schedule and product page. Save the exact tariff/version used for the comparison. A bank link does not mean that Thailand Expat Services recommends the bank or guarantees availability.

Bangkok Bank and KBank fee links in the approved draft did not return a usable rollout-day response, so they are not retained as evidence here. Check a selected bank's official channel directly before comparing it.

Before sending documents or money

Use the provider's official channel. Do not send passport scans, bank statements, source-of-funds records or other sensitive data to Thailand Expat Services unless the purpose, recipient, retention and transfer basis have been explained and you have agreed. Never transfer money merely because a provider or introducer appears in this guide.
