Non-immigrant visa routes: choose by purpose and authority — Review overdue
“Non-immigrant” covers different purposes, including business or employment, study, family and retirement-related routes. Requirements are not interchangeable. Begin with the official Thai e-Visa category and the responsible embassy or consulate's current checklist. If seeking an in-country extension or status change, use the current Immigration procedure for the permission and purpose actually held.
Do not rely on a universal passport-validity, financial-evidence, insurance, police-certificate, fee, processing-time or extension table. The responsible post or Immigration office may request additional evidence and decisions remain individual.
A Non-Immigrant B visa is not itself permission to work. Work authorisation, employer or activity restrictions and exemptions are governed separately; obtain Department of Employment and qualified Thai advice before beginning work. The same separation applies to professional licences and restricted occupations.
Do not send passport, financial, health, employment or immigration documents through a general enquiry form. Thailand Expat Services provides general information and optional independent referral coordination. Providers remain independent; compensation may be received and must be disclosed before contact-data transfer. No eligibility, visa, status change, extension, admission or work permission is guaranteed.
Review status: Review overdue. Last recorded review 3 January 2025; verify every transaction with the responsible authority.
