Dental Insurance Information in Thailand

By Thailand Expat Services Last reviewed: 9/10/2025

How to check dental-policy benefits, procedure definitions, limits, waiting periods, provider networks and payment rules.

Dental benefits vary by insurer, product, policy version and procedure. The issued wording and schedule control; there is no safe generic waiting period, reimbursement percentage, annual limit or savings estimate.

Check before treatment

  • Confirm whether dental benefits are included, optional or provided under a separate contract.
  • Ask how the policy defines preventive, basic, major, prosthodontic, orthodontic and emergency treatment.
  • Check waiting periods, exclusions, annual or procedure limits, deductibles and co-payments in the issued schedule.
  • Ask whether the proposed clinic and dentist are eligible and whether network status changes payment or reimbursement.
  • Obtain any required pre-authorisation and a written treatment plan where the policy requires it.
  • Confirm whether the patient pays first, whether direct billing is available, and which clinical and financial documents a claim needs.

Do not assume that a clinic’s participation, a quoted price or a product label guarantees cover for a specific procedure.

Comparing options

Compare the actual premium and issued benefits with the treatment you reasonably expect, but do not infer value or suitability from generic market figures. Consider exclusions, waiting periods, renewal rules and the financial effect if a claim is not covered.

Provider and complaint checks

Verify an insurer or intermediary through the OIC broker and licence service. The OIC also publishes a consumer complaint route and hotline 1186.
