The issued policy controls eligibility, benefits, exclusions, limits, waiting periods, territory, networks, pre-authorisation, payment and claims. Do not infer coverage from a product label, sales summary, hospital accreditation or intermediary licence.
Possible ways to fund healthcare
Depending on eligibility and circumstances, a person may use Thai social-security benefits, employer cover, an individual or group private policy, travel cover for a defined trip, or personal funds. These options are not interchangeable.
Some insured persons can access medical benefits through the Thai Social Security Office (SSO) system and a designated participating facility. Confirm current insured-person status, contribution record, benefit entitlement and selected facility directly through SSO; employment alone does not prove entitlement.
Check before relying on a private policy
- Obtain the complete issued wording and schedule for the exact product and version.
- Check the insured people, start and end dates, territory, benefit definitions, exclusions, limits, deductibles, co-payments, waiting periods and renewal terms.
- Disclose information requested by the provider accurately and keep its written underwriting decision.
- Ask the insurer and hospital whether the exact policy is in-network, whether direct billing is available for proposed treatment, and what pre-authorisation or patient payment applies.
- Confirm emergency and claims contacts, notice rules and required documents from the issued policy.
The Healthcare Accreditation Institute publishes accreditation status. Accreditation does not establish insurer-network participation, direct billing, suitability or claim acceptance.
Visa or extension evidence
Insurance evidence is not universal for every visa or extension. It depends on the exact category, transaction, location and competent authority. Thai embassies and consulates handle many applications abroad, BOI handles LTR qualification, and Immigration Bureau offices handle in-country stay and extension processes. Use the current checklist for the authority processing the exact application and confirm it immediately before buying cover.
Independent checks and complaints
Verify an insurer or intermediary through the OIC broker and licence service. Licence status does not certify policy suitability, hospital access, claim payment or immigration acceptance. The OIC publishes a consumer complaint route and hotline 1186.
Information and referral boundary
Thailand Expat Services provides general information and, if requested, may coordinate an introduction to an independently licensed provider or broker. We do not recommend, issue, bind, certify or guarantee insurance, claims or visa acceptance. Any fee, commission, affiliate payment or other commercial relationship will be disclosed before you submit contact details for an introduction or we transfer them. See the Insurance hub or contact options.
