Rules and institution checks

  • BOT fee standards update — checked 4 September 2026: Selected deposit-document safeguards took effect on 1 July, and basic-card and selected payment-service standards took effect on 1 September. Further FX-commission and electronic BAHTNET provisions are scheduled for 1 October. Read the fee comparison guide and the September update, then check the bank's current tariff; the standards do not guarantee account or product access.

  • Deposit protection: Thailand's DPA currently states a statutory maximum of THB 1 million per depositor per protected financial institution, subject to protected-deposit, currency, depositor and institution rules. Check the current DPA publication and your institution; this is not a product-suitability or government-guarantee statement.

  • Branch access: hours vary by bank, location and holiday. Use the bank's current branch locator before travelling.

  • Foreign-currency accounts: availability depends on the identified bank's eligibility, supported-currency, fee and foreign-exchange terms.

  • PromptPay: participating banks may offer transfers or Thai QR payments using supported registered identifiers. Eligibility, registration, fees and limits depend on the bank/customer relationship. Supported cross-border apps are corridor-specific.

  • International transfers: compare an authorized bank or provider using a live quote, total THB received, document needs and delivery estimate. Named providers are examples only, not recommendations.

  • Property or investment evidence: confirm currency, purpose wording, receiving account and available documents before sending. Obtain transaction-specific guidance from the receiving bank and an independent qualified Thai property professional.

  • Institution checks: identity, tax-residency, source-of-funds and transaction-purpose checks depend on applicable law and the institution's controls. A bank may request information or decline or restrict a service.

Before you enquire

Banking products, eligibility, documents, fees, limits, exchange rates and processing depend on the identified institution, channel, customer profile and transaction. Confirm current terms directly with the provider before acting. Any fee, commission, affiliate payment or other commercial relationship will be disclosed before you accept an introduction or we transfer contact details. Do not send passport scans, bank records, passwords, PINs, authentication codes or payment-card details through a general enquiry form.
